Join a team, join a community

Regardless of whether you’ve arrived in Rockhampton from an NRL or AFL state, you’ll find a code and team ready to welcome you to its ranks. Like many regional areas, sport plays a key role in shaping community bonds. Our region is home to semi-professional teams, nationally-backed leagues, and grassroots competitions.

State Representative Teams

CQ Capras—Rugby League

No Rockhampton initiation is complete without cheering on our mighty CQ Capras! Representing Central Queensland in the state-level rugby league competition, the Capras now field teams in the men’s, women’s, and junior QRL competitions.

If you’re talented enough to secure a spot playing for the Capras, you could join a long list of footy stars from Rockhampton—Cyril Connell Jr, Harry Grant, Ben Hunt, Scott Minto, Cam Munster, Anthony Siebold, Kevin Walters, and Tamika Upton.

The Capras currently serve as a feeder club for the Dolphins NRL side, creating career pathways for players and giving locals the chance to see top-tier talent in Rockhampton.

Rockhampton also has its own state-level basketball teams, taking on the rest of northern Australia in the NBL1 North league.

The Rockets men and Cyclones women play regular double fixtures at our riverfront stadium, which draw big crowds and generate plenty of noise.
