Providing great educational opportunities is a priority for the Rockhampton Region which boasts a wide array of educational facilities, from childcare, through to schools and on to tertiary education.
The Rockhampton Region is well served by 22 public primary schools, 4 public high schools and 18 private schools (some offering residential boarding facilities). Our schools deliver well-respected education at a fraction of the cost of tuition in Brisbane.
Before enrolling your children in a public school, make sure to check the relevant catchment area where you live. While you can generally apply to attend a public school outside your local catchment, a place won’t be guaranteed should you choose to do so.

With dozens of pre-school and childcare centres across the Rockhampton Region, you won’t need to add much of a detour to drop the kids off during your morning commute. Finding childcare spaces in regional areas can sometimes be challenging, but Rockhampton rates well for availability of spaces, following investment into new centres over recent years.

Rockhampton is the birthplace and home of CQUniversity, which has campuses located throughout regional Australia, in capital cities, and even internationally. CQU is Queensland’s only dual-sector institution, offering technical and vocational qualifications alongside university degrees.
The University of Queensland’s Rural Clinic School and James Cook University’s Generalist Medical Training Program are also based in Rockhampton.
