We understand pets are a big part of the community, and we welcome your furry friends to Rockhampton. While you’ll find plenty of pet-friendly activities and locations here, please respect the safety and comfort of your neighbours by following Rockhampton Regional Council’s pet ownership rules.
Pets in the Community
Many cafés in the Rockhampton Region are pet friendly (just be sure to check), and there are plenty of shaded areas where you can walk your dog.
Dogs in public must be kept on a leash at all times, except in the region’s designated off-leash dog areas:

Pet Rules
Dogs
Dogs must be registered with Rockhampton Regional Council within 14 days of moving to the area. They must be microchipped, contained on their property or on a lead when in public, cleaned up after, and provided with food, shelter, and care. A maximum of two dogs are permitted per household, with approval required for additional dogs.

Cats
There is no need to register your cat with Rockhampton Regional Council, however they must be microchipped, kept within your property, and provided with food, shelter, and care.
