Rockhampton is known as the capital of Central Queensland (or CQ as we like to call it), and is the main service centre for the broader region which incorporates towns such as Yeppoon, Gladstone and Emerald.

Central Queenslanders are proud of their united community, which is made up of a number of sister cities and neighbouring regions.

Yeppoon and The Capricorn Coast

40 minutes from Rockhampton

Living in Rockhampton, you’ll enjoy the benefits of being close to work, shops and essential services while also having simple access to a coastal lifestyle.

Rockhampton is just 40 minutes from the beach and the coastal towns of Yeppoon and Emu Park. Byfield National Park is a popular weekend retreat for Rocky locals, as is Great Keppel Island, just off the coast.

Gladstone

1.25 hours from Rockhampton

About an hour south of Rockhampton lies Gladstone, a major industrial port and our closest neighbouring city. Gladstone’s parklands and gardens make a great day-trip from Rockhampton. For a more substantial escape, hop on a ferry out to the Southern Great Barrier Reef or drive to the beautiful beachside community of Agnes Water.

Emerald and the Central Highlands

3 hours from Rockhampton

For an entirely different landscape, head west from Rockhampton into the Central Highlands. Sandstone mountains, gorges, and a real outback feel lead you right into the regional city of Emerald.

Emerald is the gateway to the Gemfields, where you can search for sapphires and rubies, and the outback towns of Western Queensland.

Fairbairn Dam on Emerald’s outskirts is also a popular local spot for water sports and fishing.
