Chimp at the Rockhampton Zoo

Rockhampton Zoo is very special. Not only is admission free, the Zoo one of only three Zoos in Australia to currently house Chimpanzees. In February this year, Rockhampton Zoo welcomed into its family the first Chimpanzee born in a Queensland Zoo in 40 years, baby Capri.

Capri was born on the 12 February 2018 to mother ‘Leakey’ and father ‘Alon.’ Capri is one of six Chimpanzees at Rockhampton Zoo and has already become quite the cheeky new addition enjoying games of hide and seek. You can watch her meet all her milestones on the Rockhampton Zoo Facebook page. Or better yet come and visit her in person!

Come and hear what the keepers have to say first-hand by visiting during feeding time at 3pm daily.

Rockhampton Zoo is nestled within the Botanic Gardens, adjacent to the Murray Lagoon in Rockhampton and is one of our Top 15 Things to do in the Region.

Once you have finished exploring Rockhampton Zoo, head down to the Capricorn Spire Visitor Information Centre on Gladstone Road to pick up your own plush baby chimp toy to take home with you.
