A new sporting activity is blasting its way through Rocky and taking aim to be one of the top adventure sports for adrenaline lovers and arms enthusiasts alike.

They might look like real firearms, but in fact these “weapons” are actually toys. Firing tiny gel pellets, they are the safer, no-mess alternative to paintball.

Opening in the CBD at the start of the year, CQ Blasters have gained more and more popularity since their beginnings as a home-based business selling online. As traction and popularity grew, they began importing blasters and found the next step was to open a store.

Originating in Gladstone, they made the move to open a store in Rockhampton and haven’t looked back since.

“We’ve really got a huge following now, and our store is always busy.”

People soon began asking where they can play, and so began the idea of starting up combat-simulated field games.

Appealing to people of all ages and fitness levels, Damien says it’s great to see people having fun and exercising at the same time.

“You don’t have to be fit – some people start off just walking around and taking aim behind obstacles, and before they know it they’re running around.”

“It’s really all about having fun – it’s been great to see fathers and sons out there together, and families just having a great time.”

The blasters fire small gel pellets which are 99% water, and have a biodegradable casing, making them wonderfully environmentally friendly. Also being much smaller in size than a paintball pellet, Gel Blasters are the safer alternative, allowing the sport to be safe for children to play.

“We have rules and guidelines in place, and provide safety glasses to make for a safe environment for all to play in.”
