A jolt to the cafe scene

Hitting the ground running is new owner of Jolt Bakery Cafe, Cameron Maltby. Originally from Mackay, Cameron made the move to Rockhampton in October 2016 to be closer to family.
Identifying a large gap in the market for good quality service and dining options, Cameron saw an opportunity to transform the historic Post Office, that has been an iconic landmark in the Rockhampton CBD for many years, into a cafe oasis.
“I really love the heritage buildings that fill the Rockhampton CBD and I wanted to be a part of it.”
After taking over Jolt Bakery Cafe in December 2018, Cameron wanted to bring a fresh outlook and make it his own. The exciting new house-made menu, made from fresh local produce, offers you a tasty dining experience.
As a young business owner, Cameron says that he is all about supporting the local community and bringing life to the region.
“Rocky has a lot of potential for expansion and growth and I think it is a great place for families and business.
“There is plenty of opportunity in the future for the CBD and it will end up being a fantastic place to explore.”
Hoping to make a mark on the night life in the CBD District, Cameron’s next challenge is to prepare Jolt to extend their opening hours to include evenings.
“By opening for dinner, I am hoping to offer more options for people to dine out in the CBD and encourage them to be a part of the new revitalised area.”
As an ambassador for other young people wanting to get involved in business, Cameron says seeking advice from experienced business professionals first is paramount.
“Don’t just jump into it – do your research first. It’s not about the idea, it’s about making it happen.”
Jolt Bakery Cafe is located at 80 East Street and is open Monday to Friday 6.30am - 3pm, Saturday and Sunday 6.30am - 2pm.
