Getting around

Commuting is a breeze

Whether you choose to drive, ride or walk, Rockhampton’s wide streets, modern layout and plentiful walking and cycling tracks will help you get there quickly and safely.

Commuting is a breeze – locals tend to think that more than a 3-minute stop is a major traffic jam! 20 minutes of driving will take you from the furthest northern suburbs to the other side of the city and the south east suburbs, so enjoy the time saved to do what you love most.

Walking, biking and scooting

Rockhampton’s suburbs are widely spread compared to metropolitan cities. Luckily our weather is usually dry and pleasant, so walking, biking or scooting is easy and fun. Most major roads have marked cycle lanes, and adjoining pedestrian and scooter paths.

Be aware of the special road rules that apply in Queensland, before you zoom off.

The convenient Sunbus service will get you comfortably and easily to all major shopping centres, medical precincts, the University, schools and around town. The bus timetable and map of bus routes will help you to plan your trips.

Taxi and Uber

Taxis are readily available - call or book ahead 131 008. Yellow Cabs. also known as Rocky Cabs, provide 24/7 service and have stands at the airport, Base Hospital, CBD and all major shopping centres. Uber services are available through the Uber app.
