Shopping and markets
Shopaholics will not be disappointed
With five major shopping centres in the region and hundreds of specialty stores, you will find yourself picking up just what you’ve been looking for without the hassle of paid parking, long walks and crowded malls!
Stockland Rockhampton is the largest shopping centre in the region with 14 major retailers including Coles, Woolworths, Big W, Harris Scarfe, H&M and Kmart, nearly 200 specialty stores, a 6-screen cinema complex, off site restaurants and an expansive food court area including an alfresco dining terrace. This sprawling, air-conditioned single level centre offers the best of fashion, home and lifestyle under one roof, with convenient underground and outdoor parking.
The CBD is home to some sensational boutique shopping options. Enjoy a bite to eat and then hit the shops. Littered with cafes, sandwich and juice bars, spend the morning exploring the area at your own pace. Along East Street and around surrounding blocks, you’ll find little pockets of unique boutiques selling designer fashion, gifts and collectibles alongside well-known national franchises and personal care services such as stylists, beauty therapists and massage centres. Admire the heritage architecture and get to know the local shopkeepers.
City Centre Plaza
A 5-minute walk from the CBD will land you at City Centre Plaza where you’ll find Target, Coles, speciality stores and cafes to shop and explore in air-conditioned comfort. School holiday events and special promotions surprise and delight regulars and visitors alike.
Suburban Shopping Centres
Outlying suburbs on both the northside and southside of the city are well supplied with grocery shops like Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Drakes and SPAR, as well as a selection of specialty stores for all your daily needs. ALDI will open in 2019. All suburbs have convenience stores within easy walking distance from the majority of accommodation.
Prime West Homemakers Centre
Prime West Homemakers Centre and nearby shopping clusters house a great selection of major national franchises for all your building, renovating and decorating needs in spacious, air-conditioned showrooms and outlets.
Gracemere Shoppingworld offers easy parking and extensive trading hours for the residents of Gracemere and outer western suburbs. You’ll find Woolworths, Best and Less, specialty stores and fast food and cafes – and service with a smile.
On Saturdays and Sundays, car parks and open spaces are transformed into local markets around the region, offering the best local and organic produce, as well as handicrafts, home-made items and knick knacks. The Rockhampton Heritage Village hosts one of the largest markets once a month, with a carnival flavour, steeped in unique early history.
Can’t wait? Rockhampton’s Kern Arcade Car Park Markets open every weekend, and Luna Markets, Handmade Expos and pop-up markets are held frequently around the city and at varied times to offer you the selection you are looking for.
